  • A Temperley Tour through history – LFW II

Alice Temperleys collection for London Fashion Week deserves it’s own post.. Looking at the pictures and saving the photos, it was easy to give them all a name of their own… e.g.

This is Katherine Hepburn in the full swing of ‘Guess who’s coming to dinner’ – luxury knit, wide leg trousers and what looks to be flat shoes. Divine.

Here is Holly Golightly – updated for the millennium but still dressed for breakfast at Tiffanys.

I’m feeling very Elizabeth Taylor travelling outfit in this one, or casual dinner with Richard Burton in Paris or Milan. I love the gloves, I think gloves need to manifest into everyday life. Who could do anything tacky or uncouth while wearing white gloves??

Liz Taylor again, a post Cleopatra outfit for the beach or dinner. Yes, for the beach, with jewelled sandals, this would be totally HOT.. Hawt.

  • LFW AW 2013

better late than never.. here is the round up of LFW, looks that I love

From L’Wren Scott, beautiful gold embellished outfits (Nicole Kidman already wore the first dress in public)

This dress is so hot. I love the glamourous almost Studio 54 vibe to it..

From the powerhouse that is Burberry – so wearable – I see a lot that I would wear in everyday life and a lot that Zara will copy and fingers crossed do it well:

I love the fringe and eyelet detail on the coat that extends to the bags.

  • New York Fashion Week II

So, here is a round up of some of my favourite looks from the snow filled fashion week that was New York… Aside from some great outfits below, in all my trawling of the Internet for show photos and street style photos, a couple of things sprang to mind…

    1. Are most of the shows in NYFW a little too small still to attract the names on the street (e.g. Giovanna Battaglia, ADR, CR, Miss Issa etc.) and that’s why they have been near impossible to find, OR

    2. do snow friendly outfits not really make great shots and hence the shortage of good street style shows…

I believe it is in fact a combo of the two, with point 2 re-affirming my frustrations with London winters and the length and depths of them… by month FIVE we all have coat and tights fatigue  and do I really have to buy another pair of cool but warm but practical boots that go with everything???

Secondly, we have seen magazines give way to blogs, give way to street style, to personal style, to tumblr, to glossy half yearly fashion books (ahem Ms Roitfeld)… what is next? … The variety of looks below show that full blown ‘trends’ are over.. When it comes to fashion, have we come full circle to needing to be told again? do we want to collaborate? Emulate?Any ideas?

Some of the best looks (and this is way before I trawl through Oscar De La Renta.. beautiful collection worthy of an entire other post..

  • New York Fashion Week 2013

The first Fashion week of 2013 is upon us, starting in New York.

It’s forecast to snow, so my wardrobe from the ground up will consist of:

    Alexander Wang Boots:

    Temperley London Skirt:
    Costume National Shirt:
layered with  the Alexander Wang sweter…
    Classic, monochrome, cool and cosy!

    All can be found at:

  • Favourites

One of my favourite Internet finds right now is Vestiaire Collective it is by far and away the posh-est re-sale shop on the net anywhere

You are guaranteed authenticity as everything is checked by their staff before it reaches you, and no trawling through pages of made in china no name junk and H&M from five seasons ago – it’s all premium stuff. You can set up a search agent for something you really really want. Get on it.
Here is a little sample of my wish list:

The Valentino Rockstud Shoes obviously I am obsessed with them:

The YSL bag. I am ashamed to say I had a really good copy once. Now I’m holding out for the real thing:

And of course Chanel earrings, to be worn ironically of course.

    Shop like the wind!

  • RIP Platforms ..(happy dance starting NOW!)

After season after relentless season of the platform, which just seemed to get bigger and bigger, it seems to be official – they are OVER. All the devotees can now use these artefact’s as doorstops perhaps?
I have always been a fan of the no platform pointed toe stiletto. Occasionally a rounded toe too. Boring? Maybe. Classic. Definitely.

THANK YOU fashion gods for widening me shoe options by about a 1000%. I hated the platform. It made me too tall, it didn’t look elegant. In short (or freakishly tall), it looked ugly… sceptical? see below:

    Victoria Beckham – Before:

    And After:

Isn’t it so much better?!?!?!?!?!? Now I am coveting these:

  • Pre Fall 2013 – Yves Saint Laurent would be….

turning in his grave or giving a standing applause? There was no official show and as Milan Men’s Fashion week has started combined with the Golden Globes, the release of the Saint Laurent collection was a non-event in more than one way.

In his first season for the newly re-named house, Hedi Slimane showed a collection that was underwhelming to say the least. Given his history and stature in the industry, it seemed that despite this he was given a ‘do-over’ by the industry… can we be so generous this time?

Here is a living breathing example of what he delivered last time:

Yes it’s Anna Della Russo and Yes we love her and Yes she looks great in everything, but is it WOW?! or is it a bit too much like it was fished out of the costume department after the Mask of Zorro was made? OK it’s a look, it’s Gothic LA, yada yada, but from a heralded so called genius like Mr Slimane (he totally inspired Karl to lose 500 million kgs to fit into his clothes) I just expected more. I wanted it to be more beautiful.

So, on to this season. Here are 3 of the about 19 looks:

The dress below – totally hot. I get it. Think I saw it in Zara this season just gone..

The leather dress is cool and edgy, reinforces the leather story for another season, I think Phoebe did it better though, and I’m pretty sure TopShop did one just like it not so long ago.

This one is tough to say.. it’s a knit and presumably a skirt, with the same jacket in the top photo. The look reminds me of an angry teenager I’ve probably seen hanging around a cinema complex somewhere. I guess the overall impression I’m getting or giving I guess is that as far as women’s wear is concerned, Hedi Slimane is a great stylist. The accessories are great. The hats from last season are already everywhere and the bags are lovely and not doubt will do well enough to justify his position at the house. I’m glad he didn’t do predictable and mine the archives for another kind of do-over – like we need to see safari suits right now anyway, but in my mind at least YSL was glamour and it was cool. He has hit a nail on the head with some cool here, but let’s have some glamour too.

  • Pre Fall 2013 – Phoebe vs Stella

So the Pre-Fall 2013 season is showing now.. sounds dangerous no? Pre – Fall… hehehe… anyway, this seems to be a new season that has emerged over the last few years and quite frankly, I Love It.

Celine came up with a brilliant show a few days ago, filled with very Celine like pieces that have had their volume ‘turned up’.. mostly I am loving the use of Navy, the leather, the hats, which feel very ‘I spent my holiday in Bolivia and Mexico and this is what I brought back’ and THE SHOES. If you saw my post the other day about ‘The New Shoes‘ you will have seen those black and white Kurt Geiger Loafers, which if you are clever you will get your hands on NOW.

In comparison, the lovely Stella McCartney also featured Navy:

(Love these boots, will be looking for the Zara knock-off next season!)

And Stella also did oversize too!
That being said, am loving her splashes of camel in the collection. Also bodes well for my desire for a new Camel coat next winter!

And finally, she included plenty of the Berry/Maroon colour of this winter, which means only one thing- get your hands on it in the sales NOW!  Love the stripes on this dress. Ms McCartney says her mother was part of the inspiration for this collection – love the shape of the dress, very 70s made new…

The entire collection for Stella, Celine and the rest of the pre-Fall shows can be found here
